Traveling photography will now have a new meaning. The rugged Nikon Coolpix AW100 belongs to the Coolpix AW series of point and shoot digital cameras. Waterproof to 10 m, free-proof to -10 degrees centigrade and drop-proof from 1.5 m, this camera is an ideal travel companion. This all-weather digital camera has a Nikkor Lens with a focal length of 5 - 25 mm and a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 28 - 140 mm.

This Coolpix digital camera has a CMOS image sensor that lets you take images at a resolution of 16 megapixels. You can take crisp images of distant subjects with 5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom of the Coolpix AW100.

The body of this Coolpix all-weather camera is rugged and durable. The Nikon Coolpix AW100 weighs 178 g and has a slim design that will fit comfortably in your backpack. The one touch video recording button is convenient to use on a camping trip or a trek. With this Coolpix camera, you can record videos in Full HD at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 dot pixel (30 fps). The GPS tracking feature is very useful when you are exploring new places on your travels.

This Coolpix digital camera is powered by the EXPEED C2 image-processing engine. The 3 inch TFT LCD display screen has a resolution of 460,000 dot pixels. The anti-reflection coating of this display screen makes viewing images or videos much easier even in the harshest sunlight.

Battery and Storage

You can take up to 250 images with the rechargeable Lithium Ion battery on a single charge. This Coolpix AW100 has an internal memory of 83 MB and can be expanded using SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. You can use the USB 2.0 high speed port to transfer your images to a PC or laptop and always have free space for more. You can also view your images and videos on an HDTV using the HDMI mini connector.

Performance

Aperture of a camera refers to the lens diaphragm which controls the amount of light reaching the image sensor. This Nikon AW100 has an aperture range of f/3.9 - 4.8. This Nikon point and shoot has a focus range of 500 mm to infinity (Wide) and 1000 mm onwards (Tele) in the Auto mode. In Macro mode, this focus range begins from 10 mm onwards (Wide).

ISO refers to the light sensitivity of the image sensor in a camera. The light sensitivity of this Nikon Coolpix camera is in the range of ISO 125 - 800. The light sensitivity can be manually changed in the range of ISO 125 - 3200. The shutter speed in this Coolpix AW100 has a range of 1 - 1/1500 seconds on the Auto mode. In the Fireworks Show mode, the shutter speed reduces to 4 seconds, to capture the image of bursts of light in a fireworks display.

Night time traveling can be brightened with the inbuilt flash of the AW100, which has a range of 300 - 3500 mm (Wide) and 500 - 2200 mm (Tele).

This Nikon Coolpix digital camera has 19 scene modes like Beach, Night Landscape, Pet Portrait, Underwater and many more. In the Underwater scene mode, the AW100 adjusts settings to prevent unnatural green or blue cast in images, giving you dramatic pictures of your underwater experiences.

This travel camera has a combination of lens-shift and electronic Vibration Reduction, enabling you to take sharp and blur-free pictures. The Smile mode of this Coolpix digital camera automatically fires the shutter when a subject smiles and the Blink Warning feature displays a warning message when a subject has blinked.

With the self-timer of this Coolpix point and shoot camera, you can delay the shutter release by 2 or 10 seconds and be in every image with your friends. You can take up to 3 shots at a speed of 7.1 frames per second in the Continuous Shooting mode and capture every instance of a sky-diving or scuba-diving adventure.
