Ideal for entry level digital SLR users, the D5000 is the newest addition in the DX-format digital SLR family of Nikon. Powered by EXPEED image processing system, this SLR camera has an integrated Dust Reduction System. The camera has a 12.3 megapixel Nikon DX format CMOS image sensor, with the dimension of 23.6 x 15.8 mm. D5000 supports 3:2 aspect ratio and has Active D-Lighting feature for smooth tone reproduction.

The D5000 DSLR camera weighs 560 g and has dimension of 127 x 104 x 80 mm. The digital camera has Eye-level Penta-Dach mirror. The low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD has Vari-angle monitor, which can swing down 90 degrees and rotate 180 degrees. The display size is 2.7-inch and has resolution of 230,000 dot pixel. User can add external memory to this Nikon camera using the SD and SDHC memory card. The rechargeable EN-EL9a Li-ion battery can take up to 510 shots.

This digital SLR camera is capable of shooting HD videos at resolution of 1280 x 720, 24 fps. The D5000 supports AVI movie format and NEF, and JPEG image format. The camera has Face recognition feature and Self timer of 2, 5, 10 or 20 sec duration. Continuous shot mode allows users to shoot at 4 fps. The connectivity options available in the Nikon D5000 include USB 2.0 and HDMI output.
