Nex-3K is one of the first mirror-less camera from Sony, along with the Sony Nex-5K. This interchangeable lens digital camera acts as a good transition for users who are looking to switch from the Compact camera to the DSLR camera range. The Nex-3K is a 14.2 megapixel camera powered by BIONZ image processor. This interchangeable lens digital camera uses the Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with dimension of 23.4 x 15.6 mm. The camera supports 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratios.

Body

The Sony Nex-3K weighs 239g and has dimension of 117.2 x 62.6 x 33.4 mm. Instead of the Viewfinder, the camera uses the 3-inch TFT screen, which has Xtra Fine LCD with TruBlack technology. The screen of the LCD has 921,600 dot pixels resolution and can be tilted by 3-inch to help take pictures easily. The Nex-3K supports Memory Stick PRO Duo/HG-DUO and SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. The camera consists of NP-FW50 battery, which is capable of taking 330 images.

Performance

The Nex-3K can mount Sony E-mount lenses and also support Minolta and Konica Minolta AF lenses with the help of an adapter. It can digitally zoom from 1.1x - 10x. This Sony camera uses the Auto Contrast-detection Auto-Focus. The focusing areas can be selected using the multi (25 points), center and flexible spot feature. The camera supports Auto-Focus (AF) modes such as Single-shot AF and Continuous AF. The Auto ISO ranges from ISO 200-1600, while the Manual mode ISO can be set from ISO 200-12800. The shutter speed varies from 1/4000 to 30 sec and the camera also has a bulb. The camera has an external flash which provides a range of 16mm.

Sony has included the function of 3D Sweep Panorama in the Nex-3K, along with a lens based Optical SteadyShot system. Like many other cameras, the Sony Nex-3K supports the P/A/S/M shooting modes. It also supports various Scene modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports, Sunset, Night Portrait, Night View, Hand-held Night Shot, and Action. The Face recognition feature can recognize up to 8 faces and the self-timer can be set up for a 2 or 10 seconds delay. The camera supports continuous mode at 2.3fps. This camera is capable of shooting HD videos and supports AVCHD and MP4 format for video and RAW, RAW & JPEG, JPEG Fine and JPEG Standard for images. In terms of connectivity, the camera supports USB 2.0 and HDMI Mini.
